Members: $12 Non-members: $17 Venue: Community Room, Grove Library Precinct David Carter, President of the Royal Australian Artillery Historical Society of WA, will speak about the defensive role played by the citizens of WA in the artillery from colonial times to the present day. The traditions of WA’s artillerymen were linked to those of the British Royal Regiment of Artillery, particularly prior to Federation. Since 1901 Australian gunners either professional, volunteer or militia have forged impressive traditions of their own in the various conflicts our nation has been involved in. WW2 saw more artillery pieces in and around Fremantle Harbour, than any other Australian port. Today artillery has a comparatively low profile in this state. Its Army Reserve members now train in battlefield surveillance, employing state- of- the- art drone technology.
