Event Type: NONE Date: 6/04/2018 Start Time: 6:00 PM End Time: 7:00 PM Description: This intriguing session examines literature which sheds new light on the extraordinary behaviour of plants. Recent developments in the plant sciences have seen the emergence of theories on plant intelligence. There has been significant growth in representational and cognitive terminology to describe what plants do and how they do it. An increasingly popular view advocates that plants are active, intelligent organisms with basic cognitive capacities. However, unlike animals, plants do not even have rudimentary nervous systems; what could it mean to assert that a plant is cognitive? Is this all just metaphor, or is there a way to make sense of these claims? Facilitated by Laura Ruggles, PhD Candidate/Research Assistant from the Philosophy Department of The University of Adelaide. Free event. Bookings essential.
